St Andrew’s, Graeme unbeaten at festival

St Andrew’s College won all three of their Grahamstown School’s Cricket Festival matches, while Graeme College also remained unbeaten.

St Andrew’s College won all three of their Grahamstown School’s Cricket Festival matches, while Graeme College also remained unbeaten.

Twelve schools cricket first teams and two invitational teams took part in the annual festival hosted by St Andrew's College.

St Andrew’s first beat Menlo Park High School by 32 runs on day one, as Ross Vides top scored with 80 and Ross Ferguson took 5 wickets for 22 runs.

On day two, St Andrew’s beat St Andrew’s School (Bloemfontein) by 27 runs, Christopher Benjamin top-scoring with 41 and Ross Ferguson taking 4 wickets for 34 runs. Day three matches were interrupted by rain.

St Andrew’s faced St Alban’s (ranked third in the School Sports News Cricket Top 50 at the end of the 2014 season) in a T20 format.

St Andrew’s won by 31 runs as Vides top-scored with 50-not-out. Graeme College beat St Alban’s, with Nicholas Zimmerman making 43 as Graeme won by 1 wicket.

On day two the Graeme vs Trinity House match ended in a draw as Leluthu Cekiso took 5 wickets for 77 runs and Chris Gleaves top scored with 34.

Their third-day game was cancelled due to bad weather.

Kingswood College lost their first encounter against Namibia U19 XI by 7 wickets.

Daine Kruger made 46. Their second day match vs St Alban's ended in a draw with Jimmy Sholto-Douglas taking 3 wickets for 38 runs.

Their day-three game against St Andrew’s School was reduced to 46 overs, as Kingswood won by 4 wickets. Jarod van Blerk took 3 wickets for 20 runs and Daine Kruger top-scored with 54.

The Grahamstown Rural XI lost both their games, as the third match was rained out. On day one they lost to Cambridge by 2 wickets and then lost to Muir by 8 wickets on day two.

Renaldo Gombert contributed with 56. The festival gives coaching staff an opportunity to play around with their squad before the start of the 2015 schools cricket season.
