Eskom has announced they will be implementing Stage 1 load-shedding this weekend, starting 9 January.

In Grahamstown there could be scheduled electricity outages at the following times:

    Friday 9 January: 6pm-8.30pm; Monday 12 January: 6am-8.30am; Wednesday 14 January: Midday to 2.30pm

Eskom announced on Twitter just before midday today, “Eskom has started load shedding in stage 1 as of 11.05”. An hour later, the utility tweeted, “We would like to appeal to customers to reduce their electricity usage as much as they can, as it will ease the pressure on the system.”
