EP win four of six at U15 Cricket Week

Eastern Province won four of their six matches at Under 15 Cricket Week in Oudtshoorn this week, with four Grahamstown pupils on the side.

David Rushmere, Carl Johnson, Robert Quarmby (all St Andrew’s College) and James Rippon (Kingswood College) made local schools proud at the tournament, from Saturday 13 to Wednesday 17 December.

Eastern Province won four of their six matches at Under 15 Cricket Week in Oudtshoorn this week, with four Grahamstown pupils on the side.

David Rushmere, Carl Johnson, Robert Quarmby (all St Andrew’s College) and James Rippon (Kingswood College) made local schools proud at the tournament, from Saturday 13 to Wednesday 17 December.

South Western Districts played host. Like all the CSA National Weeks and various national rugby weeks, there is no official tournament winner. However there is a main game on the final day that is considered the unofficial final as it is usually contested between the two strongest teams.

Participating teams were: Boland, Border, Easterns, Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng, Griqualand West, KwaZulu-Natal, KZN Inland, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Namibia, Northerns, North West, South Western Districts, Western Province.

EP results:

Day 1 – EP vs Mpumalanga (declaration game): Mpumalanga 93 all out. EP 176/9 (Robert Quarmby 42 runs, Carl Johnson 33 not out, David Rushmere 23, James Rippon 3). Mpumalanga 25/5. EP U15 won by 58 runs.

Day 2 – EP vs Northern (declaration) Northerns Titans 122 all out. EP 126 all out (Carl Johnson 18, David Rushmere 5, Robert Quarmby 0, James Rippon 0). Northerns Titans 84/3 (Robert Quarmby 1/9). EP 38/2 (David Rushmere 2 runs). EP lost.

Day 3 – EP vs Limpopo (T20) EP 117/7 (David Rushmere 56, James Rippon 26 not out, Carl Johnson 0, Robert Quarmby 0 not out), Limpopo 63 all out. EP won by 54 runs.

Day 3 – EP vs Western Province (T20) Western Province 77/8 (Carl Johnson 1/11, Robert Quarmby 2/14), EP 78/3 (David Rushmere 26, James Rippon 2 not out). EP won by 7 wickets.

Day 4 – EP vs Boland (50 overs) Boland 152/7, EP 153/5 (David Rushmere 82, James Rippon 22 not out). EP won by 5 wickets.

Day 5 – EP vs Gauteng (50 overs) EP 133 all out (Robert Quarmby 16, Carl Johnson 13, James Rippon 0), Gauteng 136/7. EP lost by 3 wickets.
