True to tradition, the Buyel’Ekhaya Pan African Music Festival has confirmed a dazzling line-up of artists for the annual event on Sunday 21 December at the Buffalo Cricket Stadium in East London.

Firmly established as an Eastern Cape festive-season “must-do”, the festival literally has something for everyone – from veterans Stimela, Oliver Mtukudizi and kwaito sensations Trompies to dance-floor favourites Uhuru and Mafikizolo.

Vocalists Zahara and Berita also form part of the line up, as do The Soil, and DJ’s DJ Tira and DJ Ganyani .  In what’s sure to be a popular move, the festival has just learnt that the legendary Papa Wemba will be among the performing artists.

In keeping with their commitment to developing local talent, the festival has confirmed a range of local emerging artists, including Csana from Port St Johns, Afro soul and jazz singer Thandokazi from Mthatha, Simphiwe “PS” Peter from King William’s Town, Afro soul artist Andile Seskhona from Mdantsane and kwaito star Super from Duncan Village.

The Buyel’Ekhaya Pan African Music Festival, which began in 2009, has grown to become an established brand and cultural mecca in the Eastern Cape.  In many respects, the festival has also evolved into a massive reunion, gathering audiences from various towns in the Eastern Cape, as well as homecoming Eastern Capers from across the country who have made the event a part of their festive-season tradition.

A proudly South African event, Buyel’Ekhaya is celebrating 20 Years of Freedom. In a tribute to the ultimate in South African talent, the festival will feature a tribute to Brenda Fassie, originally from the small Eastern Cape town of Indwe. The performance is a loving salute to women’s resilience in the music industry in the past 20 years as personified in the line-up led by Swazi Dlamini, Zahara and Berita.

Tickets are available at Computicket and Shoprite Checkers at R180 per ticket.
