The East Cape Agricultural Research Project held a Multi-stakeholder dialogue forum (MSDF) at Rhodes University's Barratt lecture hall today 9 December.

Some of the issues being discussed were the provision of services for rural communities, infrastructure development and participation in development processes.

MSDFs offer an opportunity to create communication forums that recognise farm workers, dwellers and small-scale farmers as central agents that can open up communication channels with different stakeholders.

This gives everyone linked to the sector an opportunity to participate in an environment that provides hope for a transformed and sustainable agricultural sector.

This can only be achieved through engaging the constituencies in a manner and environment where they will feel comfortable to participate and are in control of processes, their document states.

The forums can also be an opportunity for building synergy between different entities in the public and private sectors to work towards a good quality of life for all in the sector.
