Eskom announced on Friday 5 December they are currently implementing Stage 3 load-shedding in some areas because of high demand, or urgent maintenance being performed on certain power stations.

According to their website this means up to 4000 MW will be shed, spread over 24 hours from Monday to Sunday.

The schedule for Grahamstown as updated on Friday 5 December indicates that load-shedding here for the next few days could be as follows: Friday 5 December: 6pm to 8.30pm Saturday 6 December: 6am to 8am; Midday to 2.30pm; 11pm to 2.30am Sunday 7 December: 6am to 8.30am; Midday to 2.30pm; 11pm to 2.30am Monday 8 December: 6am to 8.30am; Midday to 2.30pm; 11pm to 2.30am

In its system status update released on Thursday afternoon Eskom said, "The electricity system will remain constrained and the risk of load-shedding remains high."

On Thursday the power utility put into effect Stage 2 load-shedding.

In Grahamstown power went off at 6pm and returned around 8.30pm.

Grocott's Mail has been unable to obtain comment from Eskom's media desk, which says they will be issuing an update imminently.
