A revised Scoping Report for the proposed Spitskop East wind energy facility near Riebeeck East has been released for public comment.
This follows the previous version’s rejection by the Department of Environmental Affairs.
The commercial facility, 6km north-west of Riebeeck East and 15km north-west of Alicedale. The 20 000ha area falls within Makana Local Municipality and the Blue Crane Route Local Municipality.
The plan proposes the construction of up to 57 wind turbines.
A notification letter from process specialists Sustainable Futures dated 7 November states that the revised draft scoping report is available for public review from 7 November to 7 December at the public libraries in Riebeeck East, Grahamstown, Alicedale and Bedford, as well as the agricultural co-ops in Paterson, Somerset East and Humansdorp.
An EIA process for a larger project named ‘Spitskop’ initiated in January 2011stopped and the application was withdrawn.
The Spitskop East facility is a separate venture.
