A Xolani man who was arrested on intimidation charges remains in custody. He was arrested following a protest by residents in the area who wanted him and another murder suspect to be removed from the area.

The man appeared in the Grahamstown Magistrate's court last Friday on intimidation charges. He was charged with murder after he allegedly stabbed Radio Grahamstown DJ Simphiwe "Peaceman" Ngeleza in August.

Accompanied by police, Xolani community members marched to his shack in Xolani informal settlement on Tuesday last week.

Residents said they went to Ward 3 councillor Marcelle Booysen to confirm their suspicions that the man had unlawfully built a shack in the area.

The man was taken into custody regarding threats he had made to some community members.

He is due to appear in court on today, Friday 17 October, where he faces charges of intimidation.

Damani said the intimidation charges rise from threats the man allegedly made to community members last Saturday.

"According to information available to me, he threatened five or six, saying he was not afraid to kill if he has to," Damani said.

The case was postponed until 6 November for formal bail application.

Meanwhile the 31-year-old woman who was forced out of the area together with the man is due back in court on 7 November.
