Kingswood College hosted the 2014 National Co-Ed Schools Water Polo Tournament last week in an event that brought the best co-educational water polo playing schools together for keenly contested matches.

More than 600 players, coaches, parents and spectators enjoyed a fine three days of exciting water polo that began Thursday 9 October. A total of 32 teams, 16 boys’ and 16 girls’ teams, took part.

They included Stirling, Hudson Park, Port Rex, Alexander Road, Pearson, Kingswood, Westerford, Glenwood House, Oakhill, Scottburgh, Kingsway, Thomas More, Kloof, Crawford Lonehil, St Peter’s, Rand Park and St Dunstan’s.

The girls’ final was an intense affair between Westerford and Pearson, in which the lead changed hands regularly throughout the match. Westerford emerged as the victors in a match that ended in a nailbiting 7-6.

After an even contest in the boys' final between Crawford and Pearson, Crawford eventually won by a margin of 5-3.

While unlucky in both finals, Pearson eventually took the overall combined title of best Co-educational Water Polo School for 2014.

The Kingswood girls were placed 6th out of 16, while Kingswood boys ended 7th place.

Kingswood's head of sports Pieter Serfontein, who organised the event, said, "It was a privilege to host an event of this magnitude and we are confident that all teams and spectators left Kingswood College having thoroughly enjoyed themselves. If the 2014 tournament at Kingswood is anything to go by, then the long term growth of the event is inevitable."
