The suspension of Democratic Alliance provincial leader Athol Trollip was overturned through an out of court settlement.
Trollip and the DA appointed Grahamstown attorney Brin Brody to challenge his suspension and fine via an urgent application made to the High Court.
According to a media statement ,Trollip was informed by the Deputy Speaker of the Eastern Cape Legislature, Bulelwa Tunyiswa, that from 3 October he was being suspended from the legislature for 15 days and was being fined the equivalent of a month's salary.
In a statement from the DA leader, he said, "I did not and could not apologise for calling the Premier a liar, a cheat and a thief, because I never ever said that nor implied that."
The decision to sanction Trollip was taken after a sitting of the Legislature's Ethics Committee which was convened due to his refusal to unconditionally apologise to Premier of the Eastern Cape, Phumulo Masualle, for comments attributed to Trollip in the print media.
Trollip said his party had shown that it will not be bullied nor cowed by the majority party.
