Makana Local Football Association (LFA) has fallen three weeks behind their league schedule, after weekend matches were again cancelled due to what the LFA describe as unplayable pitches.

The Makana LFA released a facebook statement last week announcing the cancellation of matches due to a wet pitch. The affected stadiums were JD Dlepu and Fiddlers Green, both owned by the municipality.

According to the LFA the fields were very wet and could not be marked in time for the games to resume. To add to the weather woes, in the opening week of the league, a couple of teams also failed to arrive for their respective matches.

Makana Municipality could not be reached in time for comment regarding the maintenance of the fields.

Rhodes is the only club that has played both their opening matches of the league so far, making it two wins in a row for the newly promoted side.

Last weekend they beat another newly promoted side in Green Leaves 3-2 to collect a cool six points after beating Love and Peace in the opening round by 4-2. This was the second week in row in which matches were postponed due to inclement weather and if this weekend’s weather forecast is anything to go by there should be no more delays as the weather promises to clear up.

This weekend, six league matches will take place at the JD Dlepu stadium which had a wet outfield last week, with the other two matches taking place at Rhodes.

*The SAB teams will open their first round of this season’s campaign with Nedbank Cup matches on 11 and 12 October. Three teams from Makana make the SAB league in XI Attackers, City Pirates and Maru FC.
