Marcus Lombard was named player of the tournament at the end of the U19 Coca-Cola T20 Schools Cricket challenge held at the University of Pretoria’s LC De Villiers complex last weekend.

The event was the culmination of an ongoing tournament that began in October 2013, when some 11 000 cricketers from more than 650 schools started on their journey to represent their respective franchise in the national finals of the Coca-Cola T20 Schools Challenge.

Representing the various franchises were Grey College (Knights), St Stithians College (Lions), Waterkloof Hoerskool (Titans), Kingwood College (Warriors), Wynberg Boys’ High (Cobras) and Westville High School (Dolphins). Kingswood beat Selborne College to represent the Warriors in the national finals last weekend.

The Player of the tournament, Lombard made 237 runs in his five innings, at an average of 79. Lombard was also named Player of the Day at the end of the first day’s play when he made 110 not out off 44 balls.

Kingswood lost their first match on day 1 to Waterkloof Hoërskool by 5 wickets. They then beat Wynberg Boys High by 82 runs in their second game.

On day two, Kingswood lost both their games, first to Grey College by 7 wickets, then to St Stithians by 119 runs. In their final match on day 3, Kingswood beat Westville Boys High by 6 wickets.

See Kingswood’s summarised score on Page 20 of Friday's 10 October edition.
