94 school children were lucky enough to visit Addo Elephant Park for Heritage Day in a trip organised by the Wessa Grahamstown branch and the Rotary Club of Grahamstown Sunset.
94 school children were lucky enough to visit Addo Elephant Park for Heritage Day in a trip organised by the Wessa Grahamstown branch and the Rotary Club of Grahamstown Sunset.
The constant drizzle was not enough to dampen the spirits of the pupils from Graeme College, VGHS, Rhodes outreach, the Raphael Centre, Nombulelo Senior Secondary School and Mary Waters School.
They were accompanied by Wessa, Rotary, Interact and Rotaract members. The pupils saw lions, elephants and buffalo as well as numerous antelope and smaller mammals and birds.
Following a picnic lunch provided by Rotary, the groups travelled towards the Colchester gate observing game along the way.
The organizers plan this as an annual event and WESSA will award a floating trophy for the school that submits the best notebook by a pupil or group of pupils.
The pupils tackled the project enthusiastically, even collecting fragments of plants that they identified.
Arriving back in Grahamstown just after 5pm – to sunny skies – it was agreed that it was a great day for the kids and the guides alike.
