The EP Natural Bodybuilding Championships (EPNBBA) where they qualified, took place in Port Elizabeth on Sunday. The EP team will take part in the South African Championships, where they will face-up against top bodybuilders from around the country.
Johan Botha, chairman of the Makana Natural Bodybuilding and Fitness Club was one of the standout performers at the show. Not only did he win Masters 1 (40 to 49 age category), he also won the overall Masters category (40 to 60+).
Also winning their age category were Luthando Goba (U17) and Qhama Ngxe (seniors). On his way to winning the Master 1 category, Botha beat the defending EP and SA champion, Goodman April, who went on to finish fourth overall in the world championships in 2013.
Representing EPNBBA from the Makana club are: Luke Hall, Francois Botha, Aviwe Singata, Luthando Goba, Lesley Sauls, Fabian Isaacs, Qhama Ngxe, Ashaphile Zani, Khayalethu Mzongwana, Anele Cakase, Leon Mofu, Johan Botha, Danie September, Akhona Mdilitwana and Natasha Nel.
Team captain is former Grahamstown police officer, Tommy Murphy who now lives in Port Elizabeth. Murphy has also been selected as part of the side.
Botha said he was proud of the Makana club members, adding that “some of these guys only started training about one year ago and they are already representing their province”.
The South African Natural Bodybuilding championships takes place from 3 to 4 October and will be hosted by the EPNBBA in Port Elizabeth.
