The Makana Local Football Association's (LFA) Top 8 Knockout challenge is again in disarray as IX Attackers has been suspended for allegedly assaulting an official.

Mandla Gagayi, a Top 8 administrator, said the LFA suspended IX Attackers over allegations that players assaulted an LFA Executive Committee official after their second-round match of the Top 8 competition.

Officials for the IX Attackers were not available for comment. The club is currently facing a year in the wilderness from competitive football.

This is the second time in a year the club has been charged with this offence.

They received a suspended sentence last season with the condition that they are not found guilty of a similar charge in future.

The sentence had not yet been raised to the club, pending possible appeal on the part of XI Attackers.

The Makana LFA is undergoing damage limitation as the season has been beleaguered by other allegations of assaults on officials.

Though Gagayi says the incident did little to affect the tournament, it has been a rather troubled ride for the administrators this season.

Four matches were cancelled after three clubs failed to produce proof of registration and another club arrived late at the opening match.

Mandla explained this by saying that some clubs “either do not read the packs that each club was issued with and further explained during the pre-season workshop or just plainly ignore them”.

He added that some clubs that failed to pay registration did not attend workshops where registration procedures were explained.
