Mziwoxolo Ndwayana is in a league of his own and it would not be an overstatement to say that all of Makana boxing has his back.

Mziwoxolo Ndwayana is in a league of his own and it would not be an overstatement to say that all of Makana boxing has his back.

Last weekend, the man known as Bhokoloshe downed his challenger Khululekile Sibeko in the 7th round to stamp his authority as the best Welterweight boxer in the Eastern Cape.

The SA title hopeful fights out of Masibambane Boxing Club, where his skills are honed by his father, Bulelani Ndwayana, who has been in his corner from the very beginning.

The win against a more experienced Mdantsane boxer was his third defence of the title he won back in November 2011.

The 26-year-old is in his prime and said he always looks to down every opponent put before him. The Welterweight is one of the most exciting divisions in boxing and has some of the best boxers in South Africa, like former IBO champion Chris Van Heerden and SA champion Tsiko Mulovhedzi and Jarred Silverman.

Ndwayana, who boasts a record of 12 wins in his 15 outings, has his sights set on a national title.

No boxer from Grahamstown has become a national championship and Ndwayana is the best hope of changing that for Makana municipality.
