Rhodes University is one of only two South African universities that had a 100 percent pass rate in the initial tests for chartered accountants.

Rhodes spokesperson Zamuxolo Matiwana said in a media statement that 40 students in the university’s Post-Graduate Diploma in Accountancy (PGDipAcc) passed the Initial Test of Competence (ITC) in 2014.

The ITC, which was held in January and June, is the first of two Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) examinations that candidates who wish to qualify as chartered accountants have to pass.

The chartered accountant designation is the pre-eminent professional accounting qualification and South African chartered accountants are highly sought after around the world.
