Overcast weather earlier this week did little to dampen the mood of a group of Grahamstown crafters handing over their first commercial order on Wednesday 20 August.

Overcast weather earlier this week did little to dampen the mood of a group of Grahamstown crafters handing over their first commercial order on Wednesday 20 August.

The group is the recently formed Siyakhula Women’s Knit and Crochet Group. Their client was the Winter Rose Rugby Club, the oldest private rugby club in South Africa, for whom they knitted green and gold scarves and beanies.

Lubabalo Mbolekwa, manager of Winter Rose Rugby Club, and Mfundo Manyati, the club’s coach, arrived at the Assumption Development Centre in Joza, eRhini to receive the 30 scarves and beanies which they had commissioned from Siyakhula.

Centre co-ordinator David Greybe expressed his gratitude to Mbolekwa and Manyati.

“It has been a joy and pleasure to watch their group work. Your support is extremely appreciated by everybody here,” he said.

The centre's Maso Nduna thanked the club for their support and congratulated the women on all of their hard work.
