Last night’s wind kept the fire burning, blowing cinders over the houses in Stones Hill.  The fire is now headed towards the Coetzee’s and Haggard’s properties. Although the fire has moved down into the dense forest in the valley, the fight is not over yet.

“Three days this has been going,” exclaimed Benjamin Coetzee as volunteers were driving onto his family’s property to try and extinguish as much of the blaze as possible.

Basil Mills is leading a group of resident volunteers, armed with firefighting water-gun backpacks, down into the forests to try ad kill off every open flame and smoldering patch possible. Mills explained the urgency of extinguishing before dark as he says “it’s unbelievable how fast it can move, especially in this wind.” Mills expressed his gratitude for the help they have received from “volunteers from all walks of life.”

“You can’t do this on our own,” he said, “you have to work as a team.
