Born on 3 May 1907, Nofikile Lase Qolohle is possibly the oldest citizen of Makana and will celebrate her 107th birthday on Saturday 3 May.

AngelinaNtombikazi Qolohle, her daughter and the eldest of 11 children, is 79.

She says 'Gogo' has more than 100 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Nofikile, a teetotaller, said many had died due to ill health caused by abuse of alcohol and excessive smoking. She said she her secret to a long life is that she has never drunk alcohol or smoked tobacco.

The last time Gogo was admitted to hospital was in the early 60s, for an injury that required an operation on her knee, her seventh child, Nombulelo Qolohe (64) said.

Preparations were already under way at her Nkomo Street home for Saturday's big birthday party. Gogo Qolohle said she'd been voting since 1994 and would vote next week.
