Grahamstown took part in the Global March for Lions on Saturday 15 March in the aim of exposing the practice of canned lion hunting.

This hunting practice involves lions being kept in captivity and shot, often in cages, by overseas hunters. After the lions are killed, their heads are chopped off, and the hunters take these away as trophies.

Around 25 students and community members gathered by the Drostdy Arch at 9am on Saturday, 15 March 2014, to march down to Church Square, in the hopes of spreading awareness on the endangerment of lions in Africa.

Students from the African Drum Society kept the marchers going to a steady rhythm.
