Kingwood College kept up their winning streak on Wednesday 26 February when they beat Grey High School in the Eastern Province final of the Cricket South Africa T20 schools tournament.

The match was played at Kingswood.

A schools cricket side will represent Warriors (Eastern Province, Border and South Western Districts) in a schools T20 tournament to be held in Johannesburg in mid March.

Kingswood have so far won all their games, from Grahamstown to district and are currently the EP champs.

The Kingswood side will host the South Western District champions, Oakdale on Friday 28 February.

The winners of this game will then face the Border champions, Selborne.

If Kingswood win that game against Oakdale, they will play Selborne at Kingswood.

The EP final between Kingswood and Grey High School was set on a knife’s edge from the outset.

Wednesday’s game at Gane Field was played on what might be considered ‘perfect cricketing conditions’.

The match that panned out trumped the weather, with both teams see-sawing for domination in the short format of the game.

Kingswood was first to bat against a well-drilled Grey High School team.

The outfield was a lot slower than the batsmen would have liked, which for both teams meant that running effectively between the wickets became a high priority in setting a decent tally.

Kingswood’s batting line-up was not scared to send the ball airborne to the boundary, flirting dangerously with the Grey fielders at times.

However, Grey dropped none of their catches which put pressure on Kingswood at important points in the game.

Kingswood ended up on a well worked total of 132/6, with Brad Haller top-scoring on 38.

Grey High came in to bat, and it seemed the match would end much in favour of the visitors after the openers cracked their way to 48/0 after five overs.

Kingswood picked up their game and managed to take wickets at crucial times.

The Grey batsmen falling to some good catching and run-out successes.

Grey ended up on 118/6 after their 20 overs, falling 14 runs short of the target set by Kingswood.

Jimmy Scholto-Douglas, who contributed with 25 runs, returned best bowling figures of 21/2 after two overs.
