St Andrew’s College took to the water on Saturday 1 February for the first regatta of 2014, the East Cape Sprints Regatta at Settlers Dam.

In the main race of the day, the St Andrew's First Eight took an early lead and managed to continue to extend their lead with each stroke. Looking in great form, the St Andrew’s Eight won by more than three lengths.

The St Andrew's rowers enjoyed home ground advantage and an eagerness to finally test themselves against the Eastern Cape clubs and schools.

The U14s had their first taste of racing, managing to take a colossal win in the A Octuples, followed with wins in the A Scull and C Double.

The U15s had a successful day with wins in the A Octuple, A, B And C Quads, A and C Double and A and B Sculls and a second place in the B Doubles.

The U16s had some competitive racing with Grey and Selborne in both sweep and sculling events, the rowers placing a close second in the A Pair, A Four and U16 Double Scull. With the B Four dominating over Selborne. In an exciting finale the St Andrew’s U16A Eight crew managed a late surge for the line, pushing past Selborne to take first place

The Open boys continued to bring the results as the Quad team finished second to ZRC in a scratch crew. The third and forth Fours were involved in a match race with Selborne taking 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the 2nd Eights final, St Andrew’s were behind Selborne but with great composure managed to gain speed in the latter end of the race, winning by 0.03 of a second.

St Andrew’s took wins in both First and Second Pairs convincingly against Selboure and Rhodes as well as winning performances in the First and Second Fours.
