The athletics season is in full swing, with a number of schools holding their inter-house athletics events, and others holding trials for upcoming athletics meetings.

These sports days and trials will enable the schools to pick their performing athletes for the various championship events, leading up to the provincial champs.

PJ Olivier held their field events at the school on Wednesday and Thursday, while the action continues today with the track events taking place at the Rhodes University Prospect Field.

CM Vellem higher primary school will hold its athletics day on Monday 27 January.

Then the various trials begin with the zonal primary school track events at Prospect Field (30 and 31 January).

Next is the high schools district athletics field events taking place on Wednesday 5 February, followed by the primary schools district athletics field events the following day, both at PJ Olivier.

The district primary and high school track events will be held on 7 and 15 February respectively, both on Prospect Field.

Primary and high school teams will then be selected to represent the district at the Cacadu championships meeting.

The primary schools' Cacadu championships is scheduled for 14 February, with the high schools' event scheduled for 20 February, both at the Oval in PE.

Later in the term sees the provincial athletics meetings taking place.

A Cacadu team will be selected  to take part in the East Cape high schools provincial champs, scheduled for 14 and 15 March, to be held in Cradock.
