Police have opened an inquest docket following the discovery of the body of a man near the Fish River Mouth on Thursday 23 January.

Grahamstown police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said Moyeni police were alerted by holiday makers about a body lying on the beach near the Fish River Mouth on Thursday morning.

She said the man, around 30 years old, was wearing black socks and black takkies, she said. He appeared to have been washed ashore from the sea, police said.

Govender said an inquest docket had been opened.  Any person who may be able to assist in identifying the man's body is asked to contact Warrant Officer Makina of the Moyeni SAPS at 082 4168 512.
