The decomposing body of a 53-year-old man was found just off the N2 near Grahamstown on Thursday 23 January.

He was reported missing last week after he had allegedly gone out to fetch medicinal plants at Mountain Drive.

Police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said Khalipha 'Rasta' Maki's body was found on Thursday morning by his relatives and members of the SAPS in dense bushes off the N2 in Grahamstown.

She said the police had opened an inquest docket for investigation.

According to police, Maki, 53, left home on Tuesday 7 January with a friend.

"They had both allegedly gone to fetch medicinal plants from the bushes at Mountain Drive in Grahamstown," Govender said.

On Thursday last week the friend returned without Maki.

Govender said Maki was last seen wearing khaki trousers, a shirt and boots.

He was in good health. He could speak Afrikaans, English and isiXhosa and was a friendly person.

Anyone with information regarding his death must contact Warrant Officer Zwane on 082 3317 409, Constable Mhlaba on 078 4192 517  or the Grahamstown police station on 046-6039111.
