Makana Municipality has suspended Strategic Manager in the Mayor's office, Mncedisi Boma, on grounds of alleged misconduct.

Makana Municipality has suspended Strategic Manager in the Mayor's office, Mncedisi Boma, on grounds of alleged misconduct.

Acting municipal manager Mandisi Planga told Grocott's Mail that the strategic manager had been placed on precautionary suspension. Boma has been given seven days to oppose his suspension.

Planga would not reveal details of Boma's suspension to Grocott's Mail, saying the matter was under investigation.
"There is an investigation regarding allegations of misconduct," was Planga's comment.

Commenting on his suspension, Boma said, "I can confirm that I was suspended last week. Of course it is shocking to me, but I am awaiting a process like anyone who has been suspended.

"I observe that this matter is between the employer and employee that is why I am not going to speak on the merits of the suspension," said Boma.

Boma was suspended last year. However, asked about it at the time, he told Grocott's Mail it was a rumour.

"I am not suspended. According to my understanding I am currently on sick leave and I am going back to work on Monday (24 December)," Boma said last year during a telephonic interview.

The vehicles of Boma, the Mayor Zamuxolo Peter and suspended municipal manager Pravine Naidoo were seen outside the Mayor's house on the morning of 19 December.

While on suspension, Boma was seen at the city hall this week. He was attending an ANC caucus meeting, wearing ANC gear, prior to the start of Monday's special council meeting.

Asked why he was at work, he said, "I am here for the ANC caucus. As the chairperson of the sub-region I need to attend it," said Boma.

Boma is employed at Makana Municipality, but is also the influential ANC chairperson of the Makana sub-region.

Sara Baartman regional secretary Scara Njadayi told Grocott's Mail that Boma had not been suspended from the ANC.

"There is nothing wrong for him to attend a caucus in Makana. He is not suspended as the chairperson and was there to observe the Council, which is open to anyone who wants to attend. The chairperson of the sub-region is accountable to the Regional Executive Committee and a caucus meeting is important for him to attend," said Njadayi.
