Technicians have exhausted every check they can think of in trying to work out why the pump at Howieson's Poort Dam keeps tripping, according to an update from Makana Municipality on the water situation on Friday 13 December.

Technicians have exhausted every check they can think of in trying to work out why the pump at Howieson's Poort Dam keeps tripping, according to an update from Makana Municipality on the water situation on Friday 13 December.

Communications officer Yoliswa Ramokolo said an electrical fault was preventing the pump from working properly.

"The pump has been running since 3.20pm, but under throttled suction," Ramokolo reported.

She said the problem gets worse when the pump is operating at full suction.

"The problem is not solved, but they are going to run the pump until it trips," Ramokolo told Grocott's Mail.

"We have no other choice at this stage. Technicians have exhausted every check they can think of except dive into the dam and check the abstraction strainers.

"They say the original ones were lifted when the dam level was low and were never replaced with new ones. So this may be the last resort," Ramokolo said.
