About five police cars and Hi-Tec Security response officers swooped on a vehicle whose occupants were allegedly planning to commit an armed robbery on Wednesday afternoon.

Sources at the scene in front of the city hall told Grocott's Mail that police were reacting to a tip-off. Officers searched the silver Nissan for just over 15 minutes, before escorting it away from the scene.

Three men and a woman who were in the car at the time were taken to the police station. Police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said the incident did not reflect on the police records at the time of going to press.

Govender said if the police have reason to be suspicious, they have to act on that suspicion.
