A local pastor who was arrested for allegedly raping a 14-year-old schoolgirl was denied bail at the Grahamstown Magistrate's Court this week.

The Joza pastor was arrested for allegedly raping a teenager in September.

The man, a former convict, was due to complete his parole next year, according to a reliable source.

Police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender confirmed that the pastor was arrested on Friday 13 September.

"He faces charges of rape," she said.

The drawn-out bail application finally came to a close on Monday as the man appeared for his formal bail application on Wednesday.

The well-known pastor was refused bail and the case was postponed to 17 January for further investigations.

    The pastor remains in custody.
