Talented Kingswood College swimmer Tamlyn Price was presented with the College Head's Special Discretionary Award for Aquatics last week in recognition of her extraordinary achievements in the pool.

Price was also presented with the trophy for best woman swimmer at Kingswood for 2013 – the Kingswood College Victrix Aquarium Open.

On the school's website Principal Jonathan Trafford gave a profile of Price's swimming career, starting at age seven when she began competitive swimming in the Free State.

She has since broken records across South Africa and beyond, starting with provincial involvement in the Free State.

Arriving at Kingswood in 2010, Price set about building on her successes in the Eastern Province (EP). At her first Kingswood Championship Gala she broke 11 school records.

This set the foundation for her to go on to set three new EP records in the 50m backstroke, 100m backstroke and 50m butterfly events – all in the same year.

At a national and international level Price participated in an international invitational gala in 2011. She swam against swimmers from England, Brazil, the USA and Australia.

Here she was placed eighth in the 50m backstroke, assisting her advance in the South African National Prestige gala rankings.
This also lead to her being selected for the junior South African swimming squad that same year.

Price has swum senior national qualifying times, making both the semi-finals and finals in a number of national galas over the years.

She has received the highest number of Fina (Fédération Internationale de Natation) points scored in an event and is the holder of 13 EP swimming records between the U15 and Open age groups.

Price is currently writing her matric finals and plans to further her swimming career in the USA next year.
