Durban-based guitar duo The Hinds Brothers played songs from their freshly released debut album Ocean of Milk at the Lowlander on Monday 25 November.
Grahamstown was one of the stops in Aden and Wren Hinds' two-week acoustic tour that started in East London and finishes off in Cape Town early December.
The brothers say they've been trying to connect with intimate audiences along the way. Ocean of Milk was two years in the making, Aden said, “and it was quite intense as we didn’t want to cut corners and we’re quite perfectionistic about our music”.
And it looks like their hard work paid off. The album has gained critical acclaim nationwide, including a four-star review in Rolling Stone magazine.
Although they don't like to be put in a box in terms of genre, the Hinds say they were influenced by their father who was a folk musician in the 1960s, and bands such as The Beatles.
So where to next for The Hinds Brothers?
“We’d like to get into international waters as we think there’s place for us there,” Aden said.
