Makana Municipality has reinstated its municipal manager Pravine Naidoo after his lawyers disputed technicalities of the process by which he was placed on precautionary leave.

Makana Municipality has reinstated its municipal manager Pravine Naidoo after his lawyers disputed technicalities of the process by which he was placed on precautionary leave.

Naidoo was placed on precautionary leave for seven days beginning Wednesday 20 November.

Spokesman Mncedisi Boma told Grocott's Mail last week that the decision was taken to prevent Naidoo from interfering in investigations into his financial settlement.

Documents in the possession of Grocott's Mail indicate that Council Speaker Rachel Madinda-Isaac earlier last month agreed to pay more than R100 000 in legal costs, on top of a R3 million out-of-court settlement with Naidoo.

The agreement lodged with the labour court follows Naidoo's dispute with Makana Municipality after he left office as municipal manager in 2007. The out-of-court settlement of R3m was a compromise after his initial demand for a R5m settlement.

Executive Mayor Zamuxolo Peter confirmed this morning that Naidoo returned to work on Friday 22 November.

Read more about Naidoo's reinstatement in the next edition of Grocott's Mail, on the streets on Friday 29 November.
