The ANC Regional Executive Committee (REC) of the Sara Baartman Region say they are not worried about losing votes in the Makana area, or in the country at large.
The REC held a press conference on Tuesday outlining their strategy of encouraging people to register to vote for next year's national elections.
Secretary of the REC Scara Njadayi said the ANC were confident people would vote for the party that liberated them 20 years ago.
"We don't have any fears. The ANC is a national liberation movement and it has evolved out of many challenges and we are ready for next year's elections," he said.
The REC believes that even with opposition parties they will still win next year's elections. "We are aware of the small emerging parties, but the ANC is a beacon of hope for the masses, they know that," Njadayi confidently said. He said in Makana there is a local election team which is headed by the Sub-regional secretary Scara Wali.
Wali will be leading door-to-door campaigns.
He said all ANC councillors in Makana should recruit at least 10 members to the organisation every month, go to church every Sunday and should avoid getting drunk.
He condemned recent reports about councillors in Makana who behaved in an unruly manner in public.
"We are currently dealing with those issues as the REC, because a councillor is supposed to be patient. They are the number one citizens in their respective wards," he said.
