Citizens voting in next year’s elections will need to produce one of three forms of official identification to register and cast their votes.

These are a green bar-coded ID book, the new smartcard ID or a valid Temporary Identity Certificate (TIC) for those who have lost or not yet received their ID.

South Africa’s 22 263 voting stations will be open from 8am to 5pm on Saturday 9 November and Sunday 10 November 2013. At these stations new voters can register, or people can change and verify their details.

Elections are scheduled to take place in the second quarter of 2014.
