Dozens of donkeys and their carts lined Dr Jacob Zuma Drive recently in preparation for the annual Donkey Carnival.

The event aimed to raise funds for the Makana Donkey Association and raise awareness of some of the needs of the donkeys.

For the donkey cart drivers there were prizes in the form of food and clothing parcels, for the best donkey cart owner and harness, and the donkey in the best condition.

Organiser Annerie Wolmarans made a special appeal to farmers for donations of lucerne for the day.
