ANC Regional Secretary Scara Njadayi says they were surprised to hear allegations that a senior councillor pulled out a gun and pointed it at people during a meeting.
Speaking to Grocott's Mail on Tuesday 15 October, Njadayi said comrades deployed to oversee election processes at the meeting in Tantyi hall reported what had happened.
Last week Grocott's Mail reported that petrified Ward 10 residents attending an ANC branch election meeting on Sunday 6 October called police after a councillor pulled out his gun.
The issue was tabled in the Regional Working Committee on Wednesday 16 October, but Njadayi wouldn't give more details as it was an internal matter.
"All those who were mentioned will be taken to book," he said, but the matter is being treated as "allegations at this stage".
Local ANC sub-regional chairman Mncedisi Boma pointed out that the Regional Executive Committee has the jurisdiction to respond to cases of this nature.
The man who claims the mayoral committee member pointed a gun at him, Bongani Hanise, opened a case with local police on 8 October.
ANC member Hanise also claims that he was assaulted by another councillor.
Police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender confirmed that they are investigating a case of pointing a firearm at someone and common assault.
