A local pastor was arrested for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl last Friday 13 September.

The man, a former convict, was due to complete his parole next year, according to a reliable source. Police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender confirmed that the pastor was arrested on Friday 13 September. "He faces charges of rape," she said.

The man made a brief first appearance in the Grahamstown Magistrate's Court on Monday 16 September. The case has been postponed to Monday 23 September for formal bail application. The pastor remains in custody.
