Wanderers Rugby Football Club is hosting a Sevens tournament, youth church service and special lunch on Saturday 7 September to celebrate the club's 110th anniversary.

Kicking off the celebrations on Saturday morning at 10am, the Sevens tournament will go on until 4.15pm.

Wanderers, Klipfontein, Brumbies, Swallows, Universals, St Marks, Old Collegians, Lily White, Easterns, Winter Rose and Trying Stars rugby clubs will compete. The tournament will be followed by a first-team clash between Wanderers and Easterns at 4.30pm.

A prize-giving ceremony will take place at 6pm in the Oval club house. A medal will be awarded to the player who scores the most points in the tournament, as well as the player who scores the most tries. The celebrations will continue on Sunday with a church service at the Lesley Hewson Methodist Church at 10am.

Wanderers president Siphiwo Baninzi said they're holding a special church service as Wanderers was formed by the youth of the Methodist Church 110 years ago. After the service a lunch will take place for invited guests where Eric Diko, former Wanderers first-team captain and current sports master at Nathaniel Nyaluza School, will be the keynote speaker.

Club secretary, Yivani Peter, will also give a brief history of the club. Wanderers are the third oldest Grahamstown rugby club after Winter Rose and Lily White.
