A case of culpable homicide has been opened against a man who lost control and overturned the bakkie he was driving with 11 passengers.

One person died at the scene on Tuesday 20 August and another died in hospital. The other passengers, between the ages of 25 and 36, are “believed to be in a serious condition,” said Captain Mali Govender, spokesperson for the Grahamstown SAPS.

The bakkie overturned at approximately 8.15am on the R67, about 15km from Grahamstown. The vehicle was on its way to Fort Beaufort. The names of the deceased will be released once the next of kin have been informed.
