Qoboshiyane is scheduled to meet with Makana's Speaker, chief whip, municipal manager and local stakeholders.
A statement released by Dean of Students Vivian de Klerk said there were mechanical and electrical problems that had led to a another breakdown of the Waainek pump, but five reses that remained affected are said to have gotten their water back by early Tuesday 20 August.
An initiative has been set up by the institution by which Rhodes staff and student residences with water are hosting students without water for daily showers. An SMS circulated by the municipality to community members said Makana had been pumping water all night until a power failure had resulted in water pressure problems.
“The team is working the entire 15km line to check where exactly the problems are,” said the Makana director of infrastructure and engineering services, Thembinkosi Myalato.
