A Christian care centre in Salem that provides employment for recovering substance abusers is in dire straights after losing wood-cutting tools in a recent robbery.
Salem Crossroads padstal administrator Paul Burns urgently appeals to anyone who may be able to help them, otherwise the business could grind to a halt.
Robbers hit Salem Crossroads last Wednesday and stole chainsaws and other major tools necessary for them to harvest and sell wood – their main source of income.
A case has been opened with the police, but in the meantime 27 workers are manually processing the wood they sell, making it impossible to meet their daily production and income targets.
"We are asking for any donation of a chainsaw or even if we can borrow [a chainsaw]," said Franzi Neukomm, the man in charge of Salem Crossroads home industries. "We would really appreciate that because that is the only thing we do to put food on the table at the end of the day."
The padstal sells firewood and home industry products from their shop along the N2 at the Kenton-on-Sea turn-off. It also has a nursery.
