A Makana councillor facing assault charges will appear in court next month, following her alleged involvement in an incident when 15 people stormed a man's house and attacked him.

Nomathamsanqa Meti, 46, and co-accused Siyabulela Hoboshe, 35, are expected to reappear in the Grahamstown Magistrate's Court for their trial hearing on 10 and 11 September.

Four witnesses are expected to give evidence.

The man who laid the assault charges claims the group stormed his house in the early hours of 8 June after he failed to answer a knock at the door. Meti was allegedly part of the mob who ambushed him.

This is not the first time Meti has been charged with assault.

She and another Makana councillor faced similar charges and an internal ANC investigation earlier this year following two stabbing incidents.

Meti was also in court for another assault hearing last Friday 2 August.

She was accused of assaulting a woman at Youth Day celebrations held at Makana Resort this year.

According to the victim, Meti accused her of stealing meat and assaulted her. The charges were withdrawn.
