More about fun, less about competition. That sums up the much anticipated international Color Run, which is set to light up Port Elizabeth on 1 September.

More about fun, less about competition. That sums up the much anticipated international Color Run, which is set to light up Port Elizabeth on 1 September.

The Color Run, inspired by the Hindu Holi One Festival and Disney’s World of Color, is described as the “happiest 5-kay on the planet”.

There is no age limit; it’s a run for the young and the young at heart.

You can run, walk, crawl and even cartwheel to the finish. There are no winners and there is no cut-off time.

“We wanted to create a less stressful and untimed running environment that is more about health and happiness,” The Color Run website states.

The runners are given a white T-shirt and a colour pack filled with paint powder at the beginning of the race. Colour stations are positioned every kilometre of the race.

Each station has a different colour – blue, green, pink, purple, yellow, and orange – and here volunteers throw coloured powder on to the runners. At the finish, their own colour bags are thrown in air (or at each other).
