A woman was left with nothing after her RDP house, furniture and clothes were burned to ashes in Extension 8 on Saturday 13 July.

Nompumelelo Qiko and her friend were spending the night with a relative when her house caught fire. One of her neighbours came to tell them that her house was on fire.

When they arrived there, the fire was already out of control.

"We kicked the door because it was locked and we tried to stop the fire with water but that was too late," Qiko said.

By the time the fire department came to quell the flames, her possessions were already destroyed.

"I don't have anything now, I don't have a bed, clothes and even food to eat," she said with tears in her eyes.

One of Qiko's neighbours, Noluvo Qhakamfane, said that she was woken up around 11pm by two men to tell her about the fire.

She went to where Qiko was visiting to fetch her. Qhakamfane said the cause of the fire was still unknown to them.

According to Qiko, someone must be responsible: she believes the window at the front of her house was broken in order to set her house alight. Qiko lived with her her son, daughter and a friend in a two-bedroom RDP house.

She lived at 7013 in Extension 8 and asks for anyone who could help to call her on the following number: 0835439042.
