More than seventy people who attended the Assemblies of God Back to God crusade braved the cold weather on Sunday 9 June and went into the water to be baptised for the first time.
This was a very important event to the members as they have been frequenting the crusade for the purpose of repentance.
Although it was very cold on Sunday, people who were going to be baptised were at the Kingswood College swimming pools as early as 7.30am.
The leader of the Back to God crusade which is based at Eluxolweni location Pastor Mfazwe Stuurman told Grocott's Mail this week that the baptism ceremony was a success.
"It went very well. We are grateful to the Kingswood College management for allowing us to baptise the brethren at their swimming pools. We are also grateful to the people of Grahamstown who have shown respect to the ceremony because that is very important," Stuurman said.
The crusade is expected to be closed officially on 30 June.
He said they baptised 71 people, from Grahamstown only.
When asked why they did not wait for warm days to conduct the ceremony he said they did not want to delay.
"If you are not baptised you call not participate in the Holy Communion, what we also noticed is that ever since we started in February the people in Grahamstown were hungry for God and we could not delay the baptism ceremony."
