A 45-year-old man was killed during an armed robbery at a local wholesale store in Grahamstown on Tuesday night.

According to police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender, two armed robbers entered J Chan Henry General Dealers on Dr. Jacob Zuma Drive at 6.30pm on Tuesday 4 June.

The men, one of whom was carrying a gun, demanded cash from the store clerks.

There was a scuffle when the robbers tried to close the doors, and a customer was shot in the head while trying to leave the store.

    He died at the scene.

Police are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the robbery to contact them with information.
