Sean Eriksen started his 24 Comrades Marathon journey this morning on Sunday 2 June. Currently working in Ireland, Sean made the trip to South Africa to compete in the Comrades.

Sean runs for Grahamstown based Albany Road Runners.

Sean qualified for this year’s Comrades at the Border Masters marathon in East London last year. He finished the marathon in 2:59:24. The sub 3 hour marathon time saw Sean start Comrades in the A seeding group.

Sean first ran the Comrades in 1984. That was a Down run. Sean went on to finish his first Comrades in 8:52:29.

Over the year’s Sean managed to bring his time down. He clocked a time of 6:30:04 in 1988. This is still Sean’s fastest time over the Comrades route. That race was an Up run.

Sean currently has 13 silver medals – for finishing in under 7 hours 30 minutes.

This is Sean’s first Comrades since 2009. That year was a Down run.  Sean finished that year in 7:51:20.

This year’s Comrades Marathon is an ‘Up’ run. The race started outside the City Hall in Durban and finishes at the Cricket Oval in Pietermaritzburg. The total distance is 86.96km.
