Comrades at 65

At the age of 65 years, Eric Mapara is running the 2013 Comrades Marathon. Eric has completed 8 Comrades. He first ran Comrades in 1984, and then ran his second Comrades 12 years later.

At the age of 65 years, Eric Mapara is running the 2013 Comrades Marathon. Eric has completed 8 Comrades. He first ran Comrades in 1984, and then ran his second Comrades 12 years later.

Eric runs in the colours of Rhodes University Athletics Club. He has three Bill Rowan medals (sub 9 hours) and 5 bronze medals.

Eric’s Comrades personal best time is a 7:50:55 which he set in 1996.

As part of his training for this year’s event, Eric ran a number of 30km runs per week. He also cross-trained by cycling along the Cradock Road, outside Grahamstown.

Eric has also completed the Two Oceans marathon 23 times.
