Two men aged 16 and 21 have been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a 27-year-old woman in Alexandria on Sunday 26 May.
Mjekula said the woman had been with her cousin when they were approached by the two assailants.
"After the cousin ran away, the two took turns raping the woman and one of them cut her with a knife in the leg," he said.
A group of residents approaching saw what was happening and chased the two men, who were later arrested by police.
The pair appeared in court this week on charges of rape and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
